The Missing Money

 The Missing Money

The sky was dark outside, as a very rich lawyer started to go to sleep. He was well known and one of the richest people alive. Once he was sound asleep, a man dressed in an all black outfit dropped from the ceiling like a spider landing on his feet. He hurried to a drawer and found a large briefcase. He opened it up and smiled. He pressed an earpiece.

“I found it, George.” He spoke in a deep voice. He dropped a note inside and left the house, making sure that there was no trace of him. At least he thought he left no trace.

The next morning the very rich man woke up, and walked to the drawer to take out some of his money from the briefcase. He opened it up and nearly collapsed. His briefcase was empty. The only thing inside, was the note that the robber had left inside.

It read “This is payback,”

The man called the police to investigate. The police couldn’t find any evidence and had way too many leads. The lawyer had made many enemies over the years because of his work. Many people wanted revenge against him because he put them in jail. The police were so confused with all of the information, and they had no idea who stole the money.

The story even got to the newspapers. It went viral on the internet too. It was the largest case ever.

Later that day two 10 year old brothers happened to come across the newspaper. Their names were Don and Andrew.

“Hey, Don,” Andrew spoke, staring at the newspaper. “You seeing this?”

“Huh?” Don spoke, still staring at his computer screen, immersed in his video game.

“I think I found a case for us to solve,” Andrew said, walking over to Don to show him the newspaper.

Both of them had helped the police solve multiple cases and had a unique set of skills. Andrew was a mathematical genius, and Don was the best computer scientist of his age. Don looked at the newspaper and closed his computer.

“What are you waiting for?” He asked Andrew, walking to the door. “Let’s go solve this thing.”

Soon, they arrived on their bikes to the house that was robbed. There was caution tape all around the mansion with police walking around. Andrew and Don walked up to the house and looked for the chief of police. They needed to ask him for permission to enter.

“Sir, can we help with this case?” Andrew asked, running up to the police officer.

“Sure,” He responded. “But you probably won’t find anything. We’ve been at it for 2 hours and haven’t even found a single piece of evidence yet.”

They ducked under the caution tape and walked into the mansion. They stared in awe as they saw a giant chandelier and a high tech tv with a shelf only for rolexes. It was crowded with police who were standing in front of a giant table with a drawer under it.

“Okay,” Don spoke. “Lets go over the facts.”  He tried to stand up on his toes to get a good look at the drawer where the briefcase that was stolen was last seen.

“Right,” Andrew responded trying to do the same thing. “The suitcase was stolen after the man went to sleep, and they were somehow able to get past the security without damaging anything. The only piece of evidence that we have is a note that says This is payback, and we're still waiting for the fingerprint check. That's all we have so far.”

“That means it could be anyone because the lawyer has many enemies because of his profession.” Don said, deep in thought.

They continued to walk around the house looking for some evidence.
“Ugh,” Andrew sighed. “There’s nothing here.” He looked down on the floor.

“Wait, what's that?” Andrew asked, staring at an earpiece on the floor. He put on a glove and picked it up. It had a dragon symbol on it with an s in the middle.

“No way,” Andrew gasped. He ran to the Chief Police. He held it up to him.

“What is it kid?” The Chief said inspecting a table. He looked down at Andrew and picked up the earpiece.
“Don’t tell me it's what i think it is,” Andrew nodded.

“It’s the Sunrisers,” Andrew spoke.

“But,” The officer continued. “Weren’t they arrested 1 year ago?”

“I'm not sure, sir,” Andrew said.

The officer left the scene to go back to the office and get the files of the arrest of the Sunrisers. They were a heinous criminal gang who managed to evade the police for 20 years while pulling of major heists.

When the officer reached the office he found the files of the case and brought them back to the crime scene. He opened it and realization fell onto his face. He showed it to Andrew and Don.

“One of them was free of all charges,” Don murmured. “It was the leader.”

“And the lawyer there was the same man who was just robbed,” Realization fell on all their faces.”

“It's the leader.” Don spoke.

The next morning Don and Andrew were titled as heroes who had finally captured the leader of the Sunriser gang. The lawyer thanked them and paid them 500 dollars.

“That was nice,” Andrew said smiling at the 500 dollars.

“Hold on,” Don said staring at his screen. “Don’t tell me it happened again!”
